The Supreme Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) strongly condemns the violence against Rohingya Muslims in the country of Rakhine, Myanmar.

PBNU General Secretary Helmy Faishal Zaini said the attacks and violence should be stopped. "We strongly condemn the incident that took place in Rakhine, Myanmar State." The attacks and violence that befell the Rohingya Muslims must be terminated immediately, regardless of the reasons and motives, violence can not be justified and tolerated, "he said on Tuesday (28/8).

Therefore, Helmy also urged for world organizations to pro-actively seek to resolve the conflict that never ends it. Because, according to him, differences in beliefs can not be used as an excuse to attack each other.

"We urge related parties, particularly the Myamar government, the UN Security Council and also ASEAN to be pro-active and take strategic steps to resolve this humanitarian tragedy." The differences in beliefs and ideologies can not be used as an excuse to muzzle others, "he said.

Helmy added, Islam is very upheld the sense of humanity, so the Prophet and the companions of the Prophet is also very respect for fellow human beings despite different beliefs.

"I quote maqolah Sayyidina Ali that those who are not your brothers and sisters in faith are brothers and sisters in humanity, it is important to express how humanity is the main basis for building what is called peace," said Helmy.
